Saugeen Shores is home to the renowned Southampton Art School which was established in 1957 by artist, Bert Henderson. Since the Art School opened, people of all ages and ambitions have arrived to learn…watercolours, oil, acrylics, printmaking, landscapes, still life, fabric art, sculpture, stained glass, and collage – for a day, a weekend, a week, in the school or on location, adult or children’s classes, whatever suited their time and ambitions. Our instructors are among the best artists with a gift for passing on their knowledge, expertise and joy in their art to beginners, professionals and every stage in between.

Amelia Kraemer (she/they) is the owner of Upwards Art in Owen Sound, Ontario. They specialize in mixed media art incorporating: collage, water-based paints, drawing, printmaking, photography, and encaustic.
Anita is a professional artist living in Goderich, Ontario and has enjoyed being a working artist, teaching classes and As an Elected Member of CSPWC my classes include Big Blooms on Textured Canvas along with Acrylic Abstracts and Mixed Media. I also have an online presence offering Workshops and an Art Membership. I have been at Art Workshops since 2000.
Astrid Pinnington, an avid gardener and cook with a particular interest in Preserving. She has been practicing the Art of Preserving for 25 years, with beginnings in church kitchens. Using local herbs, vegetables and fruits whenever possible she creates delicious jams, jellies, chutneys and pickles. Teaching and sharing her knowledge is a passion.
As a Watercolour artist and art instructor, Bev Morgan uses watercolours traditionally as well as incorporates it into other mediums. Using different techniques and tools, she experiments pushing colour, form and plays with light in her paintings.
A popular instructor at Southampton Arts, Bill is an award-winning artist from Port Elgin Ontario. Bill has a degree in Fine Art and a background in education. He prides himself on creating meaningful, fun-filled classes for artists of all levels.
Carolyn is a wool painter and needle felter living and art making in St. Jacobs, ON. Wet and needle-felted art often creates reactions of wonder in people. Though wool has been used since antiquity, it is still not widely recognized for its modern use in art. Whimsical and majestic, fashionable and functional, wool is versatile, exciting and gorgeous.
Bruce County resident Cindy Matthews is a multi-genre creator who works as a visual artist and short story author. She has two collections of short stories: Took You So Long (pub. 2022, Porcupine’s Quill) and The Roach Family and Other Stories (pub. 2024, Dark Winter Press).
Dagmar works primarily in fibers as well as drawing. For number of years, she has been teaching courses in in fibers and drawing, helping her students to unfold their creativity. Her work was exhibited across Canada, the U.S.A., Europe and China.
Darlene believes the act of journaling has therapeutic, stress reducing powers, and is passionate about helping others find the freedom to express themselves within the pages of a personal journal. Her passion for recycling and recreating has taken her on another path learning the Art of Cartonnage, making fabric covered boxes.
The everyday themes in Antaya’s oil paintings combine her love of nature and her fascination with light and how it transforms an often overlooked scene. She starts with a brunaille, to establish her drawing, composition and values before she adds colour.
Hi-Sook Barker is a full time watercolour teacher known primarily for floral and landscape paintings in an impressionistic style. She has conducted many classes and workshops at countless locations. Hi-Sook is an elected member of the CSPWC and a signature member of the TWS.
As a visual artist and art instructor, Jacintha’s work is primarily in acrylics and mixed media as well as watercolour and ink. Using different techniques and tools and experimenting with pushing the boundaries of colour, form and the play of light has made her the artist that she is.
Jane Haslam is a glass and fiber artist. Her work has been sold in many art galleries and gift shops across Ontario, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMichael and the Southampton Art Gallery.
Jan was introduced to printmaking, drawing and painting while pursuing a 4-year diploma from Ontario College of Art (OCAD) and a degree in Art Education. After teaching Visual Art at the secondary level, she now explore themes of weather, water and landscapes from her Lake Huron home.

John is renowned for his carving artistry in several forms – wood, bark, soapstone and wire sculpture. He has competed with his wood carvings for many years at both the local and international level. He is passionate about nature and its beauty in all his work.

Lorraine McDonald has been painting and teaching for many years.She is a graduate from Sheridan College in Fine Arts and a certified Ontario Teacher. Lorraine has been on the Elora/Fergus Studio Tour for several years and has a studio and gallery in her home on the Grand River.
My Italian heritage and the years I lived in Pakistan greatly influenced my artwork. Bead embroidery is my favorite technique as it allows me to combine different media and materials and express my holistic vision of the world.
Maria is an impressionistic landscape painter known for her vibrant use of color in oil and dry pastels whose work is inspired by Ontario’s natural beauty. As a skilled instructor, she leads engaging workshops, sharing her artistic insights and techniques with students.
I am a jewelry designer with over 25 years of experience, passionate about teaching my craft to others. I've lived in Canada for 35 years, with more than 6 years in Kincardine, where I’m a proud member of the Victoria Park Gallery.
Marianne Gibson earned her Honours B.A. in Fine Art from University of Guelph and has worked in various mediums, with a focus in encaustic since 2009. Her work displays spontaneity and energy, be it the sensual curves of a life drawing or textural brushstrokes of encaustic.
Marion has enjoyed teaching for SAC since 1992. Her thirty plus years as a Secondary school art department head is evident in her approach to teaching for the art school. When you check out her website @aldercreekstudio you will agree that she practices what she preaches!
Marta Scythes is an illustrator, educator and stroke researcher. She teaches at the Haliburton School of Art & Design and Kingston School of Art. Her illustrations have been published by Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, McClelland & Stewart (UP NORTH series) and Queen’s U.
Michele Van Maurik is an award winning artist from Oakville who's dramatic light filled florals have been recognized internationally and is widely known as " The Painter of Petals." Her paintings are featured in Arabella, American Art Collector and International Artist Magazines
Mostly self-taught, Nancy continues to take classes and workshops, as well as teaching classes. She creates with a spirited eagerness to play and experiment, filled with “joie de vivre”, that I hope both inspires and brings pleasure to all those who view her art.
Sharon started as an amateur sand sculptor at Sauble Beach more than a quarter of a century ago. Playing in the sand with her kids, Sharon created bigger and bigger castles until she was selected to appear on CBC’s Race Against the Tide. Her love for the art comes from a love of being at the beach, being creative and meeting people.
Yasmine Louis is a silkscreen artist based in Toronto. She has featured her printed products in the largest arts and craft shows across Canada. In the past few years, she has taken her work in many directions, including public art and installations.
