Introduction to Glassblowing: May

May 6, 10AM - 4PM | All Levels | Ages 18+

The class will begin with an introduction to equipment, molten glass and a safety discussion.  Students will then learn to colour, shape, twist and blow 2200ºF molten glass to create two projects each: a beautiful ornament to hang in a window and a fun and colourful drinking glass.  Students will be working in teams of two and each student will get to make both projects.

Etched Copper Bracelet

Lighthouse in Watercolour, Pen & Batik

June 3 - 4, 9AM - 4PM | All Levels | Ages 16+

The first day of this workshop will begin with transferring a lighthouse image onto a half sheet of watercolour paper; applying masking fluild and light washes of watercolour paints. A layer of melted wax is applied and the paper manipulated to create the distinctive crackled look of batik.

Bookbinding - Japanese Stab Binding

June 7, 9AM - 4PM | All Levels | Ages 16+

Learn the four most common Japanese stab binding patterns along with the basics of Japanese style bookbinding. Stab binding is a decorative way to bind single sheets without adhesives. The covers for each of the four books will be made from silk-screened Japanese mulberry paper called Chiyogami.

Stained Glass Module III

Students will apply skills learned in Module I or II to fabricate a final 8 x 10 panel, consisting of 10 - 15 component pieces. Cut, grind, foil, and solder using your new stained glass skills! Siobhan will guide each student through the step by step construction and offer demo's and practice exercises that inform the primary project.

Plein Air in the Garden

June 10, 9AM - 3:30PM | All Levels | Ages 16+

In the morning, students will create their own art journal, made with 140lb watercolour paper. These handmade journals will then be used for an afternoon of plein-air painting outdoors. Students will learn tips and techniques to approach sketching and painting with the elements.
