Another successful week of kids camp in the books! These kiddos had a great time at Monster Mash camp with Erin Fitzgibbon, creating creatures out of cups, plates, ink blots, and more! Here’s to another week of amazing arts education and fun!
Today's spotlight is on Taylor Lasher, an emerging, self-taught acrylic artist. Swipe through to learn about her inspiring story and creative process. We hope you will drop by the gallery for the last couple days of her exhibition in the Exploration Room!
Southampton Arts is in search of Volunteers! We have been so lucky to have incredible helpers for our kids camps through the month of July, but we need more! This is a great way for high school students to complete their volunteer hours while having fun! Please forward your interest to email@example.com or share with friends with family.
This year, Southampton Arts received an overwhelming number of extraordinary submissions by our talented members for our 2021 Summer Members Show. With much thought and consideration, awards and honorable mentions are as follows:
'Permanent Member Achievement Award' goes to Kim Gellatly. Kim's painting, 'Ottawa River at Dusk' is noted for its "brave colour choice, overall harmony, effective incorporation of substrate, [and] pleasing choice of frame. Its simplicity suits the modest medium."
Kate Esplen is the recipient of the 'Most Promising New Member Award'. Her acrylic painting, 'Season’s Change’ was selected for its "satisfying composition, good use of movement, [and] good use of layering. Also noted was Kate's "confidence in applying colour and brushstroke".
'Best in Show' is awarded to Paul Mondoux. Paul's acrylic painting, 'Silent Canoe', was selected for it's "great composition [and] fresh and unexpected angle... the viewer is intrigued because (s)he has to make up the story behind it. [Also, the artworks'] aspect of mysteriousness."
'Honourable Mentions' go out to Susan Nichol for her hand-built pottery bowl, and Pat Nearingburg for photography.
The ballots are in as the public was asked to vote on their favourite artwork featured in our Summer Members Show.
With a three-way tie, 'Visitors Choice Awards' go to:
* Lynda Grant for her piece 'Wildflowers'.
* Tyler Holmes for his piece 'Beacon Alike'
* Peter John Reid for his piece 'Good Night Shore'
Congratulations to our award recipients, as well as all of Southampton Arts artists who submitted their work for this diverse and inspiring exhibition!
This Saturday we are thrilled to be hosting a public Artists in Attendance from 1-4PM! Paul was recently awarded “Best in Show” in our Summer Members Show, Kate received the “Most Promising Permanent Member” award, and Taylor Lasher is an incredibly talented emerging artist. We hope to see you this Saturday to chat with the artists about their collections!
Have you heard of the Market Square? Marine Heritage Society is running a market in the boat house parking lot every Friday from now to September 3rd. Last week, Arts Administrator Annie ran a children’s printmaking activity alongside Shelleen and Peter’s gallery yard sale. This coming Friday, artist Allyson Shmidt-Reeves will be selling her art at a Southampton Arts booth. Come down every week to see some beautiful art!
What a beautiful day! This keen group of ladies enjoyed the warm sunshine today during “Lighthouse in Watercolour, Pen & Batik” with Bev Morgan. Check out our website for more adult classes to be enjoyed outside!
This week at the gallery we’ve got three new amazing shows featuring Paul Mondoux, Kate Esplen, and Taylor Lasher. On Saturday, July 24th, we are excited to welcome the artists into the gallery for a public Artists in Attendance. This is a great opportunity to get to know the artists, ask questions, and view the art. We hope to see you soon!
