The fluid reflective quality of moving water is captured in the organic forms of Shelley Strong’s high polished sterling silver and gold pieces. Shelley grew up in Chesley, Ontario where she was influenced by her love of the outdoors especially rolling landscapes, flowing rivers and big lakes. After graduating from university with a Bachelor of Education, she headed north to Yellowknife to pursue an Arctic experience. In Yellowknife she apprenticed as a goldsmith for 4 years and established Silverstrong Jewellery. In 1998 she was offered an opportunity to teach jewellery making at Nunavut Arctic College in Cambridge Bay. A decade ago Shelley returned to her roots in Ontario. Jewellery making, teaching elementary school, and travelling have continued to be Shelley’s passions. Today she can be found in her studio in Leith, Ontario where she continues to be inspired by the beauty that surrounds her. Shelley has exhibited in galleries in the North and across Ontario and will be found every year in her booth at the Summerfolk Music Festival in Owen Sound.
