Join Our Artists

DEADLINE: March 5, 2020 by midnight. 

Application.

After completing the application form, you must submit 3-5 images of your work and an image of your work "in situ" to info@southamptonartscentre.com.

The application fee is $20, payable by e transfer to info@southamptonartscentre.com. Please use password SouthamptonArts. 

Application fees will be applied to annual fees, after successful jurying. Artists not successfully juried into the Associate or Permanent Artist categories or who are applying directly to the Supporting Artist category will have their application fee applied to the annual Supporting Artist fees. Artists who do not successfully jury in and choose not to become a Supporting Artist will not receive a refund of the application fee. 

When applying, artists can also indicate whether they are applying to be featured in a Henderson, Fire Hall  or Exploration room exhibition. They can apply for a solo show, as a group of four artists or be matched with other applicants. Please review the different display areas of the Centre

There are no extra fees for feature exhibitions and Southampton Arts will support the costs of exhibition openings and promotion of these shows.

Southampton Arts does NOT pay Exhibition/CARFAC fees. 

Jury

Our jury is appointed annually and is comprised of five members; a representative of the Board of Directors, a representative of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, a member of the local art, culture or business community, an esteemed member of the broader artistic community and the Director of Programming.

Jury Process

Work will be juried digitally. Work will be scored from 1 - 5 (Not Acceptable, Needs Development, Acceptable, Advanced, Exceptional) for Cohesiveness of Body of Work, Technical Skill, Creative Expression, and Presentation.Jury results and comments will be given to the Artists.

All images must be saved in .jpg format
All images files must be a minimum of 1MB but no more than 5MB in size.
Images must be labelled with the following convention; Your last name, your first name, the category you are applying for, the number the image is of the total number you sent.

Supporting

Open to all emerging, enthusiast, and hobbyist artists with a connection to the Lake Huron shoreline and surrounding areas. Supporting artist members are not juried.

  1. Listing on website with social media links, website, location  and contact information
  2. Up to two pieces in the Annual Spring Award Show (no additional fees).
  3. Opportunity to participate in Up Your Alley and other pop up events. 
  4. 50% off last minute seats in Art School programming.
  5. Listing in signature Southampton Arts publications. 
  6. Promotional Materials available through our Exploration Room.
  7. Opportunity to display in the Exploration Room. 
  8. Discounted rates on School rentals for pop ups and arts related events.
  9. Opportunity to place notices of your arts and cultural events in the monthly SA newsletter, space permitting.

Annual Fee: $60

Associate - Single Artist

Open to emerging, mid career and established professional artists with a connection to the Lake Huron shoreline and surrounding areas or the Southampton Art School.

Associate Artists are juried annually in March and may renew their membership for up to two additional years without re jurying, upon approval.
This category best suits artists who are interested in applying to present a body of work in a distinct exhibition and/ or in having some work on display in the high or holiday seasons, but who do not want to have a permanent display in the Community Gallery. Associate Artists are bound by exclusivity clauses limiting the display of their physical work in a 30 km radius of Southampton. Exclusivity clauses do not apply to work sold by the artist directly (online, etsy, etc).

Permanent

Open to emerging, mid-career and established professional artists with a connection to the Lake Huron shoreline and surrounding areas, through either permanent or seasonal residency.

Permanent Artists are juried annually in March and may renew their membership for up to two additional years without rejurying.
This category best suits artists who are interested in having a permanent display of work at the Centre and who regularly exhibit through other venues within a 30 km radius.

  3. Listing in Annual Report
  4. Opportunity for discounted advertising in Annual Catalogue
  5. Opportunity to apply for feature show in Fire Hall or Henderson rooms
  6. Participation in Annual Spring Award Shows
  7. Opportunity for Annual Permanent Member’s Awards
  8. Permanent, rotating Gallery space in the lower Community Gallery and Hall of Smalls
  9. Inclusion of work during summer and holiday shows in the Henderson room.
  10. Discounted rates on School rentals for pop ups and arts related events.
  11. 50% off last minute seats in Art School programming
  12. Opportunity to place notices of arts and cultural events in the SA newsletter, space permitting.
  13. A 30% commission rate applies to all sales.

Annual Fee: $95 plus $20 a month x 10 months (Total $290) (Plus HST)

Associate - Curator, Artist Collective or Organization

Open to curators, art groups, collectives and organizations with a connection to the Lake Huron shoreline and surrounding areas of Bruce, Grey, Simcoe and Huron counties.

This category best suits art groups, collectives and organizations interested in presenting the work of their members as a collective show in one of Southampton Arts’s exhibition periods. It is also an opportunity for curator's to access exhibition space at Southampton Arts. The costs of presenting the exhibition will be paid by Southampton Arts. Proposals that benefit the community or vulnerable groups may be eligible to have the annual fee waived and application fee reimbursed. 

  1. Organizational Profile on our website with up to five images.
  2. Opportunity to have a collective table or booth in Up your Alley or other markets at the Centre.
  3. Listing in signature Southampton Arts publications.
  4. Promotional Materials available through our Exploration Room.
  5. Opportunity to apply for feature show in the Fire Hall or Henderson rooms
  6. Opportunity to place advertising in signature Southampton Arts publications.
  7. Opportunity to place notices of your arts and cultural events in the SA newsletter, space permitting.
  8. A 30% commission rate applies to all sales.
