Southampton he(ARTS)! We are thrilled to announce our new online kids contest in partnership with Rotary Southampton.
Each week for the month of April, we will announce a theme to light a creative spark. Kids between the ages of 4-12 who are residents of the Town of Saugeen Shores can submit up to two submissions a week that must be submitted by photograph to firstname.lastname@example.org by midnight of each Friday.
Use whatever materials you have at home and create in any style, shape or size your imagination suggests!
All entries will be posted to our social media channels, from which a top ten will be selected. Members of the Board of Directors from both Rotary Southampton and Southampton Arts will then choose a winner for each age category. Cash prizes will be mailed to the lucky young artist.
Our first theme is very significant to a little boy in our community named Humza. Humza has hemophilia, a rare blood disorder and his mum Sumera is one of our Summer Camp Instructors. Sumera had planned a wonderful project next week encouraging children to paint hearts to be part of a collaborative art piece to highlight awareness of the disease to be presented at World Hemophilia Day conference in Toronto in April. It’s also Humza’s birthday very soon!
Covid-19 may have cancelled the project and the birthday party, but it can’t stop us from showing Humza and Sumera that we care! Can you help us? Create art with he(art)! Make your whole piece a heart, include a heart, it’s up to you! Humza will be able to see all of the submissions online and will be presented with a huge printed mosaic to commemorate that time he was five and we were all kept apart, but came together.
Although the contest is for kids, for this special theme to cheer Humza and raise awareness for his rare condition, adults can submit heart art too!
