A part of Southampton Arts as a Youth Arts Instructor for the past seven years; Chelsea has also been involved with the Elora Centre for the Arts – running their Youth Arts and Entertainment Council, Rural Youth Arts Project, Tutu in You with Steph Toohill, and much more.
Chelsea believes that having a space where people of all ages can gather, learn, and access art is essential to the hearts and minds of a community. Art is a means of expression, and exposing people – especially youth – to expression that moves them can have an impact on the mind that stays with them for the rest of their lives.
Her relationship with the arts began at a young age when she remembers sitting at her kitchen table, watching in silence as her mother sketched for hours. It wasn’t until years later when Chelsea picked up a pencil and found that she had absorbed a knack for drawing as well. Though Chelsea has always held a passion for the visual arts, she is particularly drawn to language and creative writing.
Studying administration at Algonquin College, as well as continuing to take courses in museum engagement, and art history; Chelsea’s real-world experience comes from her 4 years as Gallery Manager of Styll Gallery in Elora, and her time as a Project Administrator at the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women in Ottawa.
